Nature Island Literary Festival & Book Fair (Dominica)

Nature Island Literary Festival & Book Fair began in 2008 and is a registered non-profit organisation.
“Its purpose is not only to showcase recognised regional talent, but also to encourage new talent and publicise the work of local and Caribbean writers and poets”, as well as promoting reading, increase interest in literature and demonstrate that the literary arts and publishing are valid, rewarding and viable career choices for our people.

Normally held on the first weekend of August, with the opening night on a Friday evening, the festival forms part of Emancipation Day activities. The event comprises prose and poetry readings, storytelling, music, film, interviews, competitions and workshops for adults and children. To date, invited literary personalities have included Nobel Laureate Derek Walcott, Earl Lovelace, Kwame Dawes, John Robert Lee, Marie-Elana John, Mervyn Morris and Colin Channer, to name a few.

The “Book Fair” is also a big part of the festival and offers attendees an opportunity to view and purchase local and regional books through an assortment of publishers and book stores.

No updates are available yet for the 2013 calendar of events.
